Canary Wharf Winter Lights this year runs from Tuesday 16 to Saturday 27 January. This is the first of a couple of posts or so from the Isle of Dogs featuring a selection of the exhibits there. Later in the week I will be covering London’s much bigger Lumiere festival.
Compared to last year the light festival is somewhat smaller even though there’s still a good number of exhibits on show. 33 installations are featured with most of the classic locations in use plus a few new ones. The Canary Wharf winter lights have been running about five years now. I think the present set-up featuring multiple installations began in 2013. Pictures from today (16 January.)

Even One Canada Square, Canary Wharf’s iconic skyscraper, features in the festival this year. Its both a acrylic lamp and the frontispiece to this year’s festival map.

Last year the best installation was without a doubt On Your Wavelength. Its back again for a second year. An adjacent exhibition, Reflecting Holons (by Michiel Martens and Jetske Visser from Holland) is my favourite this year. This consists of globules (actually strips of foil) which change shape and size whilst spinning around and reflecting the different colours beamed onto these. Its amazing and must be seen in the flesh – pictures don’t really do it enough justice.
